    Get PDF
Teaching computing courses is a major challenge for the majority of lecturers in Libyan higher learning institutions. These courses contain numerous abstract concepts that cannot be easily explained using traditional educational methods. This paper describes the rationale, design, development and implementation stages of an e-learning package (including multimedia resources such as simulations, animations, and videos) using the ASSURE model. This training package can be used by students before they attend practical computer lab sessions, preparing them by developing technical skills and applying concepts and theories presented in lecture through supplementary study and exercises

The objective of the present study is to investigate the spelling errors committed by the Saudi English- major students (male) who are majoring English language at Department of Language and translationat the University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. This study adopts Cook‘s classification of errors, which categorized errors into four categories: substitution, omission, insertion, and transposition. The participants of this study included 45 male students whose first language is Arabic. The researcher used one research instrument which is the written composition essay. An analysis of errors established that errors of substitution reported (36.7%) constituting the highest proportion of errors whereas insertion spelling errors occur as the lesser frequency with a percentage mean of (14.4.%) producing13 errors. The major cause of the of learners‘ spelling errors is the wrong use of vowels and pronunciation as well as mother tongue interference. The findings of this study emphasized more focused attention to learners‘ spelling errors, as spelling teaching is an essential aspect of language learning. The Application of English Theories to Sorani Phonology

This thesis investigates phonological processes in Sorani Kurdish within the framework of Element Theory. It studies two main varieties of Sorani spoken in Iraq which are Slemani and Hawler. Since the phonology of SK is one of the least studied areas in Kurdish linguistics and the available studies provide different accounts of its segments, I start by introducing the segmental system of the SK dialect group. I present a list of consonants and vowels and discuss the variation between Hawler and Slemani. I then present an Element Theory analysis of the segmental system of SK which reflects the phonological behaviour of each segment and how it patterns with other sounds. For example, š and ž are post-alveolar articulatorily while they behave like palatals in phonological processes and hence have a headed |I| element. I then study processes of place assimilation in SK. The process of palatalization is one area that sets Hawler and Slemani varieties apart. In SK, velar stops, k g, are palatalized before front vocoids. However, in Hawler, the output of velar palatalization is an affricate consonant while in Slemani, palatalization is secondary and adds a secondary articulation to the velar stops. Similarly, both varieties have a set of emphatic consonants which have caused considerable debate in the literature as there is no agreement on their distribution in SK. In this study, I present the first detailed account of the emphatic consonants in SK and argue that their triggers differ between Slemani and Hawler and I also argue that they differ phonologically from emphatics in Arabic. Another place assimilation process that is discussed briefly is nasal place assimilation. Other processes discussed in the thesis relate to laryngeal contrasts in SK. The data show that word-initial obstruents have a typologically uncommon laryngeal contrast that utilizes the extreme points on the VOT continuum. That is, SK has a pre-voiced set of obstruents that contrasts with an aspirated set in word-initial position. In word-final position, however, the pre-voiced set is devoiced, and the contrast is between an aspirated set and a neutral set. I also discuss the process of voicing assimilation that occurs in both Hawler and Slemani. The study also accounts for such processes as metathesis and deletion and presents data to show variations between Hawler and Slemani. The study ends with an evaluation of the main findings and asserts the importance of this thesis and how it can be used as a basis for future work

Quantitative and Qualitative Assessment of Groundwater Resources in Al-Khatim Area, UAE

The UAE has achieved remarkable progress in transformation from separated small emirates to a modem union country with a high standard of living. The country is however, considered an extreme arid region. In spite of these harsh conditions, The UAE government has encouraged plantation in towns, villages and country side. This has led to sharp increase in the agricultural sector particularly during the last three decades. As the irrigated land kept increasing, there was a deep concern about the water demand and the impact of agriculture activities on groundwater systems. Al-Khatim area is considered one of the most important agricultural areas in Abu-Dhabi emirate with 1300 farms covering an area of 2405 ha that has been affected by the decline in groundwater levels over the last years. Additionally the groundwater salinity has increased to 33 ,000 IlS /cm in some places ....

The Position of the Modernists on the Qur'anic Text

Modernity is one of the trends imported from the West, just like secularism and globalization, which began to afflict Muslim countries at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is a strange trend, with its characteristics and premises contradicting our values and civilizational heritage in addition to the constants of the Islamic religion. Moreover, it attempts to tamper with the sanctities, dismantle them, and put them on the autopsy table as any historical text, removing all its sanctity or status as a divine text. Despite all efforts to make modernity a success, the Arab and Islamic people rejected it, and it was not accepted by the sons of our Islamic nation, as many imported ideas are, and that religiosity takes root among the sons of Islam as it represents the nation's spirit, aspirations, and future. This paper investigates the use of fractional order Proportional, Integral and Derivative (FOPID) controllers for the frequency and power regulation in a microgrid power system. The proposed microgrid system composes of renewable energy resources such as solar and wind generators, diesel engine generators as a secondary source to support the principle generators, and along with different energy storage devices like fuel cell, battery and flywheel. Due to the intermittent nature of integrated renewable energy like wind turbine and photovoltaic generators, which depend on the weather conditions and climate change this affects the microgrid stability by considered fluctuation in frequency and power deviations which can be improved using the selected controller. The fractional-order controller has five parameters in comparison with the classical PID controller, and that makes it more flexible and robust against the microgrid perturbation. The Fractional Order PID controller parameters are optimized using a new optimization technique called Krill Herd which selected as a suitable optimization method in comparison with other techniques like Particle Swarm Optimization. The results show better performance of this system using the fractional order PID controller-based Krill Herd algorithm by eliminates the fluctuations in frequency and power deviation in comparison with the classical PID controller. The obtained results are compared with the fractional order PID controller optimized using Particle Swarm Optimization. The proposed system is simulated under nominal conditions and using the disconnecting of storage devices like battery and Flywheel system in order to test the robustness of the proposed methods and the obtained results are compared.

This study investigated the orthographic inconsistencies face Sudanese EFL learners and their effect on the written text clarity. Since the two spelling systems of both English and Arabic are quite different, it is expected that these learners will face this problem. The descriptive analytical method was adopted to carry out this study. A questionnaire was designed to include twenty five items administered to ((17 teachers, besides a writing task distributed to (75) secondary schools  students. The collected data was analyzed and interpreted statistically. The result of the analysis indicated that  Sudanese learners made  various spelling errors. This because there was no sufficient exposure to English language spelling. Another important point is that most teachers did not provide their students with the strategies of how to improve their spelling. Based on these results, the study recommends that the teachers should consider the correction of spelling errors as something decisive and should vary their teaching methods and techniques towards effective spelling strategies in use.
